Assistant QC Manager

Responsible for supporting the QA/QC Manager in developing and implementing quality control procedures for all phases
of construction, from pre-construction through the end of the project. Also responsible for aiding/conducting quality audits,
investigating and resolving issues, preparing quality reports, and maintaining accreditation of Simon labs.

Main Responsibilities

  • Embrace the Company’s safety culture, actively support all safety initiatives, and adhere to defined accountabilities implemented by the Safety Steering and Continuous Improvement teams
  • Support, promote, and practice the Company core values, vision, and mission; follow code of ethics, workplace conduct, safety, and other established policies
  • Provide coaching, mentoring, and support of QC technicians/supervisors and direct daily work of others
  • Read, understand, and interpret specifications, principles, and products associated with the construction, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt industry
  • Communicate across all departments to enhance teamwork essential to consistently producing quality products
  • Plan and assist with coordination of quality control activities and establish priorities to support effective operations and cost control • Ensure all quality
  • Ensure all quality control operations and activities are conducted in conformance with company policies, regulatory agency guidance, and compliance standards
  • Recognize and solve actual and potential problems related to quality control operations. Inspect products for quality, identify and take corrective action as necessary
  • Manage quality control activities with other departments to obtain optimum production and utilization of materials and resources
  • Ensure that accurate test results are reported daily and on time
  • Review and analyze test results to determine causes of nonconformity with product specifications as required
  • Submit data and assist with coordination of external laboratories involved in testing processes
  • Develop and recommend measures to improve methods, performance, service, safety, and quality
  • Operate company vehicle to travel to other offices and work locations as necessary
  • Engage in project work and special assignments in support of organizational goals and initiatives
  • Act as subject matter expert regarding quality control specifications and principles
  • Assist QC Manager in maintaining QC budget
  • Sort and maintain test reports for a minimum of five years
  • Additional duties as assigned by QC Manager or above

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline (construction management, civil engineering, etc.) and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ACI and DOT testing certifications; advanced certifications required
  • Valid drivers license and ability to maintain clean driving record required

Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in quality control testing of aggregates, asphalt, and ready-mix concrete required
  • 1-2 years of managerial experience required
  • Ability to work independently without direct supervision and resolve problems and technical issues
  • Ability to collect and analyze information and recommend solutions for improvement
  • Ability to write and speak clearly and effectively to all levels of employees, both individually and in large groups
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities, problem-solve, and work under consistent pressure of deadlines
  • Demonstrated understanding of construction processes and asphalt and ready-mix concrete materials production
  • Computer skills using a range of programs and applications, including MS Office Products (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams), database/spreadsheet programs, and mobile apps

Physical Requirements

  • Wear and maintain personal protective equipment (PPE) as required
  • Regularly required to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds with or without assistance
  • Regularly required to use hands to feel, handle and manipulate objects, write, use a keyboard and/or mobile device
  • Regularly required to communicate (talk and hear), and perform tasks requiring visual acuity
  • Regularly required to perform tasks requiring visual acuity
  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Frequently required to Stand/work on feet for long periods, and walking across uneven terrain
  • Frequently work near heavy equipment and machinery, exposure to loud noise
  • Frequent exposure to typical construction site conditions, including dust and loud noise, and all-weather conditions
