James Simon incorporated Simon Contractors in North Platte, NE, in 1954. The company began by taking on any type of construction job that James Simon could get his hands on, including minor building, concrete, and pipe work, and eventually expanded to asphalt work.

To better accommodate the increase in asphalt projects, Simon opened an Asphalt plant in North Platte, NE, in the late 60s. This plant enabled the company to make asphalt a predominant part of Simon’s business.

In the early 80s, James Simon purchased Reed Ready Mix in Cheyenne, WY. Simon was then able to create concrete mixtures offsite and deliver in bulk to construction sites.

By the 90s, Simon’s Bridge Division was thriving in construction and maintenance by partnering with top professionals to ensure success. Due to their growth and quality, Simon outgrew its original headquarters and was acquired by Colas in October 1994.

Operating as part of Colas North America, Simon had projects in most states west of the Mississippi and acquired 8 aggregate companies throughout Colorado, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Wyoming. 

For over half a century, Simon has cultivated a reputation for integrity, quality, and reliability through various acquisitions as well as operations under a world-renowned construction company.
