A Day in the Life At Simon:

T-7 Road Relocation Project

In Northern Wyoming, Simon successfully completed the T-7 Road Relocation Project in collaboration with the Cordero Rojo Mine and Campbell County. The project included the relocation of T-7 road access to 95 million tons of coal near the Cordero Rojo Mine.

This ambitious undertaking produced 12,964 feet of new pavement to realign the road, merging T-7 with Haight Road, to facilitate continued mining operations. With a total tonnage of 10,470, an average of 1,745 tons per day was seamlessly laid, ensuring rapid progress and timely completion.

To achieve such remarkable results, the project employed 10.3 tons of raw cationic slow setting asphalt emulsion (CSS-1H), providing a strong foundation for the road’s durability. The paving process involved two 2-inch lifts, meticulously executed to ensure optimal quality. The bottom lift was paved in two 15.5-foot ribbons, maintaining a consistent level surface. For the top lift, two 16-foot passes were made incorporating a 1-foot slope shoe to ensure proper drainage.

The project’s success relied on efficient logistics and a well-coordinated supply chain. With an average distance of 24.5 miles from the Gillette WY plant, the asphalt was promptly delivered to the job site. Thirteen belly dumps were deployed hauling an average of 25 tons per load ensuring a continuous flow of materials to the paving crew.

This achievement would not have been possible without individuals who dedicated their efforts to making this project a success.

The successful completion of the T-7 Road Relocation Project is a testament to the dedication and hard work of the Simon team. Our collaboration with the Cordero Rojo Mine and Campbell County allowed us to relocate road access to 95 million tons of coal, ensuring continued mining operations. The efficient logistics and well-coordinated supply chain were crucial in achieving this remarkable feat. I am proud of our team’s commitment to excellence and their ability to deliver high-quality results on time.
